Book of Mormon Video Study Sheets: Turn Movie Night into Scripture Study
My kids would happily watch a Book of Mormon cartoon any day of the week. Getting them to open the actual scriptures afterward? That took a little help.
So I made study sheets to go with the Living Scriptures animated Book of Mormon series: one page for kids and one for teens, for each of the 13 episodes. They turn "we watched a show" into "we learned something about Jesus Christ, together."
What's here (free):
- Kid sheets (one page per episode): "Today we're learning" in one simple sentence, real verses to read together, a "Listen for it!" checklist to use while watching, a who's-who matching game, a coloring spot, and a cut-out memory verse.
- Teen sheets: deeper questions, room for sketch notes, "One thing I'll do this week," and a bookmark memory verse to keep in their scriptures.
- A family question for dinner on every sheet.
- Every verse comes word for word from the scriptures on churchofjesuschrist.org.
The 13 episodes run from Nephi and the Brass Plates and The Tree of Life all the way through The Savior in America, Mormon and Moroni, and The Joseph Smith Story.
How it looks on a normal week:
- Movie night (any night): Print the sheets ahead of time. Hand out the "Listen for it!" checklist before you press play. Little ones love calling out when they spot something!
- Right after: Read the verses together from your own scriptures, and do the matching game.
- At dinner: Ask the family question. (For example: "How can we 'go and do' this week?")
- All week: Cut out the memory verse and tape it to the bathroom mirror or the car dashboard.
One episode a week gets you through the whole series in about three months. And the real goal is kids reaching for the real book afterward.
The Book of Mormon's subtitle is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Every sheet points back to Him.
