General Conference for Kids & Teens: Helping Kids Find the Message (and Teach It!)

Can I be honest? Conference weekend with little ones can feel like a lot of shushing, with coloring pages handed out and a hope that something sinks in.

So here's the idea behind this section. Instead of asking kids to sit still and listen, we ask them to find something: the main idea, a few big points, a scripture. Then we invite them to teach it back to the family. When kids teach the gospel, they remember it, and they feel it.

That's what this section is for.

What's here (free):

  • Full talk retellings for every talk, in three age versions:

    • Little Learners (ages 4–7): short read-aloud versions with simple words.
    • Growing Disciples (ages 8–11): the full talk with the same stories, told so a 9-year-old can follow.
    • Youth (ages 12–18): a fuller retelling with room for deeper questions.

Each version starts on its own page, so you can print just the ages you need. The quotes are the speaker's own words, checked against the official talk text, and every talk links to the full official talk in the Gospel Library. - Breakout sheets for each age. There are no answer keys! Kids write (or draw) the main idea, three points, the scriptures they heard, and how the talk helps them come unto Christ and help others.

How it looks on a normal week:

  • Sunday: Pick one talk together. I let a different child choose each week.
  • Monday (Family Home Evening): Read the retelling for each age, or watch the official talk with your teens. Hand out breakout sheets.
  • Midweek: Kids fill in their sheets. Little ones draw, and big kids look up the scriptures in Gospel Library.
  • Next Monday: One child teaches the talk to the family using their own sheet. Then we ask, "What did this teach us about the Savior?"

That's it. One talk a week means that by the next conference, your kids will have studied and taught dozens of messages from prophets and apostles in their own words.

A little tip: let the teaching be imperfect. A 5-year-old holding up a crayon drawing and saying, "Jesus helps us be brave," is a real testimony being born. Don't correct it into something polished. Just listen.

These are retellings to help families, not a replacement for the real talks, so please read or watch the full official talks at churchofjesuschrist.org or in the Gospel Library app.

Independent resource. Not an official publication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The retellings are simplified for families, and the official talk text is always the authority.
